Day 7 Frugal Family Fun: Invite a Friend Over |

(I didn?t want to post pictures of my children?s friends on a public blog but believe me there was actually a friend over earlier this week)

One of the things both my children and I love most about summer is spending more time with friends.

At least once a week I try and have a friend over to hang out with my kids (their too old for me to say ?come over and play? any more).

Our family of 5 does not often have a friend over for everyone all in the same day but, by the time summer is done all of us have had plenty of time catching up and building memories with our friends.

When my kids have a friend over it? takes the pressure off me to entertain them. Yet, I still like to add a few? hospitality touches to my children?s friends visit. These special touches do not have to break the bank.

I like to make sure that our home is stocked with lots of sharable toys, craft supplies, and outdoor fun equipment.

Yard saling has been extremely helpful in keeping the cost? of? providing enough toys to go around to a minimum. Recently for just $3 I was able to add a second scooter to our collection allowing friends to enjoy riding together.

Toys don?t have to be expensive to provide hours of fun. These 2 dollar store pools have been a big hit this summer with Courtney and her friends.

I make meals kid friendly when we have the children?s friends over.

This particular visit was on the same day as Papa Johns $5.99 one topping pizza sale and we had not spent our eating out money for the week so our guest got to be a part of our once a week take out meal.

Normally I serve, homemade personal pan pizza?s using my families favorite bread machine recipe that the guest and children can top themselves. Or hot dogs on homemade buns with store brand potato chips.

Snacks usually contain a bit of fresh fruit and?.

warm from the oven cookies. This time it was cake box cookies. I bake mostly from scratch but I love having a cake mix in the house for these easy dump and stir cookies.

If my child?s visitor spends the night,? I like making sure they have something special for breakfast the next morning.

Lately, I love taking out a pans worth of bread machine cinnamon rolls out of the freezer the night before to bake up for fresh in the morning.

Treating my children?s friends with the same level of hospitality I would show my own friends, helps my children learn by example. My hope is that when they grow up and have homes of their own, they too will go out of their way to provide just a few special touches to their friends visits (or their children?s friends visits) to make them feel welcome.

How about you? How do you make your children?s friends feel welcome?
